2007 - a new year with new possibilities.

The calendar tells me that it’s already January even though winter hasn’t really settled in Norway this year. Sometimes I wonder what happened to 2006. It disappeared so fast. We are happy, however, that the positive development continued at KSAT with several new achievements.

We served more customers than ever, took more passes, processed more images for the oil spill and ship detection service than ever before. Routinely the KSAT antennas have more than 200 contacts per day and we’re typically evaluating 600 radar scenes per month. We are constantly expanding and we’ll build 6 new antennas at the KSAT Svalbard Satellite Station (SvalSat) in 2007. Two antennas are also being installed in Antarctica and we’re planning more expansions to our operation.

Globalization and the development of a pan-European ship and oil spill detection service is one example, services for the fragile Barents Sea is another and the completion of a Galilleo ground station at Svalbard and in Antarctica a third. The list is long for an ambitious KSAT.

On behalf of all in KSAT I’m happy to wish everyone a prosperous 2007. We’ll do our best to serve new and old users with quality, world class services.
