AISSat-1 supported by Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT)
Kongsberg Satellite Services is supporting the first Norwegian AIS satellite from its ground station at Svalbard Norway.
The first Norwegian Automatic Identification System (AIS) satellite, AISSat-1, will be launched from India July 12, 2010.
From the Svalbard ground Station, the worlds largest ground station for data reception from and control of satellites in Polar orbits, KSAT will provide real time support to the satellite operator.
The AIS information from the satellite will also be used in KSAT Maritime Situational Awareness (MSA) service. The service provides near real-time oil spill and vessel detection services worldwide.
