KSAT supports the successfully launch of Oceansat-2 Satellite
The Indian satellite Oceansat-2 was launched from Sriharikota, India on the 23rd of September. Oceansat-2 is carrying an eight band Ocean Colour Monitor (OCM) payload which can image a swath of 1420 km width with a resolution of 360 meters. It works in the Visible and Near Infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum.
KSAT had its first contact with the satellite around 25 minutes after liftoff through the Troll station at Antarctica. On the second orbit, support was also given using the Tromso and Svalbard antennas. During the first day, KSAT provided access to the satellite twice per orbit, from the Svalbard and Troll stations. This was the first time that the Troll station was in use for an ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) LEOP support.
