KSAT has recently completed a demonstration of the company's near real-time global, out-of-area capabilities. SAR data from the European Envisat satellite covering an area off the Brasilian coast has been provided through the ESA network to KSAT in Tromsų. The objective has been to demonstrate KSAT's near real-time capabilities for out-of-area oil spill detection. KSAT has processed (and also analysed) the data before transmitting the data to the Brasilian customer. In total 11 Envisat SAR scenes has been acquired and distributed using the operational set-up.
On the average, the time between the acquisition of the data and the distribution to the customer from KSAT was 1 hour and 56 minutes. Minimum distribution time was 1 hour and 30 minutes. One of the acquired scenes also contained an oil spill with a ship attached to the spill (see example). The trial has been a success and has demonstrated KSATs capabilities to provide global oil and ship detection services.
This demonstration was a joint cooperation between Spot Image and KSAT. |
