MODIS products / Polar winds
The MODIS instrument is operating on both the Terra and Aqua spacecrafts. It has a viewing swath width of 2,330 km and views the entire surface of the Earth every one to two days. Its detectors measure 36 spectral bands between 0.405 and 14.385 µm, and it acquires data at three spatial resolutions -- 250m, 500m, and 1,000m.
The many data products derived from MODIS observations describe features of the land, oceans and the atmosphere.
KSAT offers (but are not limited to) the following MODIS value added products:
- MOD04 Aerosol
- MOD05 Perceptible water
- MOD06 Cloud product
- MOD07 Atmospheric properties
- MOD09 Surface-reflectance product (under development)
- MOD10 Snow cover product
- MOD13 Normalised Difference Weather Index (NDVI)
- MOD14 Thermal anomalies product (Hot spot)
- MOD28 Sea Surface Temperature (SST) (11 and 4 micron products)
- MOD29 Sea ice product
- MOD35 Cloud Mask (CM)
- MODOP (ocean products) such as water leaving products
- CHLOR_a OC3 Chlorophyll a concentration
- Angstrom_531 coefficient 531-869 nm
Polar winds:
The latest addition to KSAT’s product package is the Polar Winds service. With our dedicated antenna at SvalSat acquiring all 24 passes of NASA’s Aqua and Terra’s MODIS instruments onboard the satellites, the University of Wisconsin has derived a method for developing Polar wind schemes. These winds are very helpful in predicting weather elsewhere in the world, especially for hurricane detection, snow fall etc.
